Jordan's Expatriate Remittances Rise 13.1% in July: CBJ

Amman, Sept. 17 (Petra) -- Remittances from Jordanians working abroad rose 13.1% year-on-year in July to $470.2 million, preliminary Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) data showed.

Over the first seven months of the year, inbound remittances climbed 14.1% to $2,966.4 million. The UAE was the top source, accounting for 20.9% of the total figure, followed by the United States at 19.3%, Saudi Arabia at 17.7%, Qatar at 10.5% and Kuwait at 5.5%. Other countries made up 26.1 percent.

Separately, remittances sent abroad by non-Jordanian workers rose 8.5% in July to $167.9 million, and 14.4% over the first seven months to $1,137.2 million.

Egypt was the top destination, which received 42.1% of outbound remittances, followed by Bangladesh at 11.8%, the Philippines at 4.8% and Yemen at 3.9%. Other countries accounted for 37.4%.
